CONSTRAINT ANALYSIS 2)
← Back
"A formal method for decomposing the constraint within a whole system into several constraints within subsets of its variables, (i.e., of an ordinality lower than the original) so that the latter fully account for the former" (K. KRIPPENDORFF, 1986, p.16).
KRIPPENDORFF claims that constraint analysis "thereby reveals the component structure of an observed system" (Ibid). The method is however reductionist and one should take care unless, by ignoring and severing interactions between local or specific constraints, something essential to the global constraint could disappear.
The method is closely related to KLIR's "reconstructability analysis".
