ECO-MATRIX 2)
← Back
An input-output matrix used to represent in a tabular form all the possible interconnexions within an ecosystem.
A non-existent interconnexion is represented in the matrix by 0 in the corresponding intersection.
The matrix is an alternate representation of the corresponding network diagram and its use has been proposed by H. ODUM. This author gives as an example a matrix of the steady state flows of carbon in a microcosm grouping CO2, its organic storage and its living producers and users.
This form of representation allows for "… the use of techniques of matrix algebra by systems analysts" (1971, p.20-21).
