FUZZY SET 5)
← Back
"A set wherein there are degrees of membership varying between 0 = not a member and 1 = is a member. The set of "tall people" is one such set" (T.F.H. ALLEN & lB. STARR, 1982, p.268).
A more formal definition is: "A set E with a map f from E into unit interval [0,1]" (A. KAUFMANN, 1973). C.P. BRUTER, who quotes this definition, adds that "J.A GOGUEN generalized this notion by considering f as a map from E into a lattice" (GOGUEN, 1967, in BRUTER, 1975, p.120).
