According to G. BATESON, no stimulus can be significant out of context. He correspondly proposes: "a hierarchy of logical types as follows:
Stimulus is an elementary signal, internal or external.
- Context of stimulus is a metamassage which classifies the elementary signal.
- Context of context of stimulus is a metametamessage which classifies the metamessage. And so on"(1973, p.260).
In this case, the concept of metasystem is of great significance (J.van GIGCH).
